Sierra Nevada Cheese was the brainchild of Ben Gregerson. Before starting his own business, Ben had helped run the family creamery. Increasing competition in the commodity milk market forced Ben to reevaluate the future of the creamery. The idea of making artisan cheese and participating in the hands-on aspect of the business drove Ben to establish Sierra Nevada Cheese, in 1997. Ben believes the core values of Sierra Nevada Cheese, quality and services, are the reason for their success.
When Ben was faced with the opportunity to purchase a competitor he looked to Tri-County EDC to help finance a business partnership that ultimately would help Sierra Nevada Cheese become even more competitive in the market.
